Under a Green Garland with Corinne Boyer

Books on Herbalism and plant lore are many and quite often repetitive in the information they give to the reader, but this is not the case with Corinne Boyer’s two publications on Troy Books , Under the BrambleArch (2019) and Under the Witching Tree (2016). These two books are the works of a practitioner of the Green Path that accomplished intense communion not only with the Green world, but Nature herself.  Her work reads as warm and vibrant description of the green treasures she found and she manages to replicate the energetic pulse of the talkativeness of plants and the silent wordiness of the trees in ways captivating and stimulating. Corinne’s work I would place in the succession of writers going back to Nicholas Culpepper’s Complete Herbal (1652), through Erasmus Darwin (yes the father of Charles) in his intense ode to the Greenwood called The Botanic Garden (1791) and in particular the second of the two poems, The Loves of the Plants through Richard Folkard’s ...

Focus of Life

Constantly we allow ourselves to be defined by the other, a natural dance between potential and becoming where the Self gradually reveals itself, a mysterious core that it is own cause and effect. Knowledge of Self leads to acceptance and acceptance of this knowledge leads to mastery of self. In Mastery of Self we find the Focus of Life where devil and saint is twined on the same axis and generates peace. Mastery of Self comes with simplicity and compassion, naturally, effortlessly, because there is nothing to defend from the threat of the other. Life is a series of changes and life is very much like a river as Lao Tzu perceived it. The more we flow with the current and seek to understand and take interest in its movements instead of resisting it the more we will stay as the captain of our Soul. We are constantly bombarded with opinions and judgments and it is not always so easily to not take it personally. But an opinion is a judgment formed by one perceiver of a limited seri...

QUIMBANDA WORKSHOP

We are happy to announce that given the success of our first Quimbanda workshop in Extrema, Brazil last month we are ready to repeat the workshop in August 2019. The number of participants are limited, so interested parties should get in touch fast. We are using a form of spiritual screening to assemble the groups, last word lies with the Maioral, literally, so interest don't equal admission. There is also the matter of the group dynamic. But given how this is shaping up we will definitely offer this workshop more times. The dates are from the 14th to 18th of August 2019 and will be held in Extrema, Brazil, 120 km from São Paulo. Please write to: sacred.alchemy.store@gmail.com for more information and notifying your interest.  Laroyé!

Imperfect is the Path to Perfection ever Imperfect

A Review of Frater Acher: Holy Daimon (Scarlet Imprint: 2018) As I read through the first pages of Frater Acher it became evident that this book was written by a kind soul, the kind of person that had his soul’s mirror to reflect kindness through the constant polishing and beating by Lord Saturn. As he writes on page 6: “Flawlessness is for tyrants and the mythical dead. As living humans, our hands are always stained. We mess up, we clean up, and mostly are blissfully ignorant of the damage or good we have done… This Platonic idea of who we are meant to be is at one with, and yet entirely separate from, our mortal personalities. It is waiting for us within our holy daimon.” And it is exactly this imperfection I found interesting in his work. The daimon, no matter if we analyse it from the philosophy of Zoroaster, Plato, Plotinus or the Chaldeans it appears that this daimoinic element is something of breath, something of fire, something good that enters us at birth is e...

A Review of José Leitão: The Bibliotheca Valenciana (Hadean Press: 2017)

This collection of the main Works of Jerónimo Cortez of Valencia who composed his treatises in the 17 th Century serves as an extension of Leitãos study in the Iberian Cyprians. Leitão comments in the presentation of his amazing translation work that the book might end up serve as a reference work, and indeed, the sheer volume of more than 600 pages might cause this treasure trove to be a work that is consulted more than worked, which is a pity, because this is a very complete collection of pragmatic and practical folk magic consisting of very much the same content as we find in the Iberian and Nordic Cyprians, albeit less diabolic. This means that we find here recipes for curing toothache and other afflictions as much as finding lost animals, the use of precious stones and herbs for whatever use, magical and mundane, for exploring its virtues or for curing something or someone. We find extensive explorations on astrology, all for practical use and we also fine a most wonderful...
